First Crocus
This morning, flowers cracked open
the earth’s brown shell. Spring
leaves spilled everywhere
though winter’s stern hand
could come down again at any moment
to break the delicate yolk
of a new bloom.
The crocus don’t see this as they chatter
beneath a cheerful petal of spring sky.
They ignore the air’s brisk arm
as they peer at their fresh stems, step
on the leftover fragments
of old leaves.
When the night wind twists them to pieces,
they will die like this: laughing,
tossing their brilliant heads
in the bitter air.

After looking closely at this poem, we went outside and wrote spring poems of our own.
Wrecked
ReplyDeleteNow it’s wrecked,
The one light breeze,
Has wrecked it all,
It was so clear,
So still,
Till something,
Lighter then air,
Felt that it had,
To destroy the masterpiece.
I had finally found,
Art that I liked,
When it rippled,
And faded away.
Now,
I will never see the bottom,
Now,
None of the mysteries,
Will ever be solved,
And now that,
The wind has stopped,
The only thing I see,
Is my reflection,
Looking for an answer,
To all my questions,
In the water.

Bugs
ReplyDeleteThose little buggers
Will swoop all around
Under your pencil
Until they get squashed,
They gum up your paper
With their bodily slime.

Spring
ReplyDeleteCalm
Like a bodega
Warm
Like toasted biscuits
Happiness all through
One spring day
CM
Green
ReplyDeleteNew green grass
Now growing and showing
Instead of white cold snow
And the dirt is now here
So the bugs can walk
In the fresh turned soil

SPRING
ReplyDeleteIt’s that remarkable time of year.
Leaves are budding
Bird are chirping
Kids are playing until
Night hushes them,
Tucks them into bed
With a blanket
And kisses them
Good rest.

Warm breeze
ReplyDeleteFinally, o so good
Warmth that doesn’t come from a fire place
Family reunions, gathering, berry picking, canoeing, and kayaking.
All smells of happiness.
SPRING!!!

Swift
ReplyDeleteThe green grass is
the first sign,
that makes me think
"Spring is here,
I can finally be,
the free rider,
I once was".
HC
Leaves
ReplyDeleteAs the wind blows
I am carried
to a new place
and see
new things,
but when
the wind dies
I am stuck
in this place
until
the next wind
happens.

Sitting on the Dock
ReplyDeleteThe first boat
of spring
sails on the pond.
the ice has finally
gone away,
melted,
and the water has
revealed itself,
revealed it’s blue,
bold
self.

WALK RIGHT IN TO IT
ReplyDeleteWalked into that big,
Big,
Field of beauty,
Beauty,
So pure,
Didn’t have a thought,
In my head,
That wasn’t
Look at that!
Knew,
That I wanted to stay,
But also,
That if I didn’t leave
Soon,
I would never,
Be able,
To come back.

Spring
ReplyDeleteAs I look across the field,
I see the twisted and tangled branches,
And the thin trees with white
Papery
Bark
Wrapped around them,
The light breeze sweeps strands of hair into my face,
When spring comes I get the sensational feeling of something new,
Something
Important.

Forest
ReplyDeleteThe trees.
They’re hunched
And grumbling.
Like your
Crabby neighbor.
They huddle together
But leave a path
For the young.
Beware
They give
No mercy
To ignorant fools
Who try to spoil
Those
Deep
…
Dark
…
Secrets within.
